Morning Service for Sunday March 22nd

Hymn: Where Charity and Love Prevail ...

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all.

In silence, we prepare ourselves to worship God, by bringing to awareness and placing before God all that weighs heavily on our souls – things we have done or left undone; things we regret; angry, unkind or unforgiving thoughts and feelings towards anyone; the ways we wound our lives and the lives of others. We ask God to help us bring loving intentions to worship today and to life in general.

silence is kept

Having in mind all that we bring before God this day, we pray:

Father forgive us, Christ renew us, Holy Spirit enable us to grow in Love. Amen.

Proclamation of the Word

Psalm 89:1-4

I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, for ever;
   with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
I declare that your steadfast love is established for ever;
   your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
You said, ‘I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
   I have sworn to my servant David:
“I will establish your descendants for ever,
   and build your throne for all generations.’

Hymn - Praise, I will praise you Lord ....

The Holy Gospel Mark 12: 28-34

28 One of the scribes came near and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, he asked him, ‘Which commandment is the first of all?’ 29Jesus answered, ‘The first is, “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; 30you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” 31The second is this, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these.’ 32Then the scribe said to him, ‘You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that “he is one, and besides him there is no other”; 33and “to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength”, and “to love one’s neighbour as oneself”,—this is much more important than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices.’ 34When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, ‘You are not far from the kingdom of God.’ After that no one dared to ask him any question.

The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried:
He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Catholic Church;
The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins;
The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayer of the Day
Lord of love, you have taught us that love is your greatest commandment. Teach us to love as unconditionally as you love us in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers of Intercession

Turning our hearts to God who is gracious and merciful, we pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need.

A brief silence

(In the Anglican cycle of prayer... pray for our Bishop Todd, metropolitan Archbishop Anne, primate Archbishop Linda, national indigenous Archbishop Mark and Bishop Marinez of Amazonia)

God of the Voiceless, open the hearts of the church and the world to all who testify to your deeds of power. Raise up voices in your world that are often silenced or overlooked due to age, gender expression, race, or economic status.

Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

God of Creation, empower us to care for the land and all living things that dwell in it and beneath it. Provide rich soil for crops to grow. Bring rain to lands suffering drought. Protect hills and shorelines from damage caused by erosion.

Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

God of Peace, bring reconciliation to all people and nations. Anoint leaders who seek goodness, righteousness, and truth on behalf of all. Frustrate the efforts of those who would seek to cause violence or terror. Unite us all in your mission.

Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

God of Healing, you care for our needs even before we ask. Come quickly to all who seek prayer this day (especially). Accomplish healing through the work of doctors, nurses, and all who tend to human bodies and minds.

Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

God of Diversity, help this community to lift up the unique gifts of each person, no matter their physical capacity, cognitive ability, or sensory need. Help us to be creative and brave in making your love known and accessible to all.

Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Here other intercessions may be offered.

God of Resurrection, you call out to those who are asleep and awaken them to new life with you. We give thanks for your saints (especially). Join us together with them as your children in this world and the next. Hear us, O God.

Your mercy is great.

According to your steadfast love, O God, hear these and all our prayers as we commend them to you; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

General Thanksgiving

Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise for all you have done for us. We thank you for the splendour of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love. We thank you for the blessing of family and friends, and for the loving care which surrounds us on every side. We thank you for setting us tasks which demand our best efforts, and for leading us to accomplishments which satisfy and delight us. We thank you also for those disappointments and failures that lead us to acknowledge our dependence on you alone. Above all, we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of his word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame temptation; for his dying, through which he overcame death; for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom. Grant us the gift of your Spirit, that we may know Christ and make him known; and through him, at all times and in all places, may give thanks to you in all things. Amen.

The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Love of God, and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit by with us all evermore. Amen
